I am 47 years old and have lived in Southern Maine all of my
life, working for the Federal Government for over 25 years. I have been married 24 of those years to my
High School sweetheart, and have three children, 2 boys and a girl, between the
ages of 24 and 17. All my children
currently live at home, and I am going to be a new Grandfather soon.
Why am I writing a blog on fun family
activities in New England?
I am uniquely qualified to tell you about New England and
all the fun things you can do as a family because I have lived it, and continue
to live it every day. I enjoy doing many
outdoor activities, including camping, geocaching, hiking, biking, kayaking,
and just plain old riding around.
I was my oldest son’s Boy Scout leader for many years,
starting as a Tiger Cub leader, and ending as Scoutmaster in my town. I have supervised and kept safe many boys on
camping and hiking expeditions in New England.
My youngest son is a hockey player, and we have travelled
from “The Cape” to “Up Maine” to attend his games, even enjoying weekends in
Lake Placid and Niagara Falls as part of our hockey life. I am also an avid history buff, and as the twelfth
generation of my family to have lived in Southern Maine, I find New England
history especially interesting. But the
biggest reason I feel qualified to tell you about New England is my many,
varied experiences with my family. We
have enjoyed many weekend days, where we jump in the car and just go. North, South, or West doesn’t matter. We always have found something new and
interesting to experience, and now I want to share some of them with you.
